Wallpaper: A Love/Hate Relationship

I have a love hate relationship with wallpaper. For instance, there are just some wallpapers that are really kind of hideous. As I mentioned in my last post, we're currently living in an apartment and when we moved in just over two months ago we did a little painting in the kitchen. That's right... we painted over some lovely yellow, green, and blue tie-dye-ish wallpaper. Thankfully it was only on the bottom half of the walls in the kitchen so it wasn't too much work. I was a little wary of how it would go painting over the wallpaper, but it turned out great! (And yes, our landlord said we could paint over it...so no worries, I'll get my deposit back!)

Then there are some wallpapers that are absolutely beautiful! I know it all comes down to a matter of opinion and taste - but, when I see beautiful wallpaper and how it can be incorporated into a room it makes me LOVE wallpaper!

I love the idea of creating a focal point in a room by only papering one wall - like in the photo below.

This is also a neat idea. This house was featured in an issue of Style at Home this summer (I believe it was June 2010 - I'll have to double check though). I absolutely love the way the homeowner used wallpaper in the bedroom. As you can see the headboard of the bed is simply made from moulding and wallpaper. I love it!

I've also always wanted to wallpaper a closet. It's a fun way to add some color and to jazz things up a bit. There are so many ways you can use wallpaper - if you have any ideas or ways you've used wallpaper before, feel free to post them, I'd love to hear about them!
