Every Nook & Cranny: Filling Space Around The Door Frame

If you remember from back here I mentioned that occasionally I was going to start highlighting spaces that have clearly used every nook & cranny. The idea of using up the space around a door frame is a great example of using every nook & cranny in your home.

In this kitchen, the space around the door frame could easily have been left blank and would have looked perfectly fine. However, the addition of the shelves built around the door frame really ups the ante. It adds character, storage, makes a statement, and is visually pleasing to the eye. Everyday items are made easily accessible and also become a form of "art".

Here are a few other great examples of filling the space around door frames:

The Hunted Interior {photo below} took advantage of the extra space around the doors in her dining room, and does it ever look great! There's definitely no wasted space here!

Lastly, if you're living in a small space and like the concept of having shelves around a door frame in your home but don't quite have the space, consider this option:

In The Decorista's apartment there's just a single shelf above the door & it totally works.

It's true that not every door frame is fit to be surrounded by shelving. Nor would you want to do this to every door frame in your home. However, if you are needing a little extra storage and are looking for a way to make a statement in a particular room, this could be an option. It's the perfect way to make use of the space you have. Plus, it looks really great too!

Remember, when using every nook & cranny, it's about making the best use of the space you've been given, having no wasted space in your home, and making your home function the best way possible for you and your family.

What do you think filling the space around door frames with shelves? Is this something that could work in your home?
