Apple Cinnamon Simmer
Over the weekend I made a batch of applesauce. Just some plain unsweetened applesauce to freeze for Baby E when she starts eating more solids. With all of the apple scraps I had left, I decided to throw some in a pot and make a simmer. Because, who doesn't want their house smelling like apples & cinnamon this time of year?
There's no real recipe for this. Just toss your apple peels/cores, a few cinnamon sticks, and some nutmeg {optional} into a pot. Then simply cover with water and simmer on the stove. Next, simply wait for the sweet aroma of apples and cinnamon to fill your house. It's quite lovely.
A couple of things: 1. Make sure you you're constantly checking on your simmer. It wouldn't be pleasant to come back to a pot where the water is completely evaporated and you're dealing with burnt apples etc. 2. Obviously, for safety sake, check on your simmer often and never leave it on if you aren't home.
Otherwise, enjoy!
Do you ever make simmers on the stove? What's your favourite "recipe"?
Hope all of my fellow Canadians had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!
